South Park Green Parking Lot Solutions
Project Description
Overview
This project aims to transform a decrepit parking lot into a model of green infrastructure design. The existing parking lot at the highly visible corner of Brownsville and Corrigan Roads in South Park is a sea of decaying pavement, with an existing stormwater conveyance system that delivers runoff to nearby Catfish Run. The planned design re-imagines the space with permeable pavers, a wide, tree-lined pedestrian promenade, solar-powered area lights, and bioswales that capture runoff and provide filtration before the water enters nearby Catfish Run. Allegheny County Parks Foundation sees this project as a demonstration project, a model for of sustainability that they hope is replicated across the County Parks system.
The project is expected to be under construction in 2022. The design was developed in close coordination with Allegheny County Parks Foundation and the Allegheny County Parks Department. Plan and interactive 3D renderings by Ethos Collaborative.
